In this article, we will be covering how to generate your Personal API Token. This API token is a unique string of numbers and letters that allows Scout to talk with other 3rd party applications.

Generating Your API Token

If you'd like to setup an API integration with your Scout account, then you'll need to generate an API Token. First, you'll need to hover your cursor over your name in the top right-hand corner of your page, then click User Profile: 

Scroll to the bottom of your User Profile page to access your Personal API Token. Click Generate Token button to open up your API Tokens page, where you will be able to manage all active tokens you've created, and generate a new token:

Click Generate New Token:

Enter a Token Description (this is to help you manage your tokens). Once complete, click on Generate Token:

You've successfully generated your API Tokens! From top to bottom, you have access to a Company, User, and Power BI/Tableau Token. Next, click on the Copy button to copy the corresponding API Token to your clipboard:

Note: You will not be able to access your token anytime after this, so be sure to copy and save your token! Your tokens are stored just like your password and can never be retrieved - even by us.

Managing API Tokens

In your API Tokens page, you will notice that the new token you created now appears in your Active Tokens list. To the right-hand side of the page, you have the ability to delete an active token by pressing Delete. Note: Deleted Tokens will not appear in this list.
