See and understand your data in a new way! The Tableau Web Data connector allows you to connect your Scout data with applications across your enterprise. Compare your Scout data with your P2P, ERP, or any other application in Tableau.

 Step 1: Create a new Web Data Connection right from your Tableau account. Open your Tableau program, then click on Web Data Connector under "To a Server":

Step 2: Copy and paste the following Web Data Connector URL into the text box:

Web Data Connector URL = https://api.scoutrfp.com/tableau_web_data_connector/reports

This will automatically move the URL above. Press your Enter key to activate the connector.

Step 3: Next, you will be prompted to enter required information in order to pull data from your Saved Reports in Scout. Under "Report Type", you'll be asked to choose the desired datasets you would like to pull from Scout. Under "Token", you will enter the token character generated from your account:

Don't worry! We'll walk you through the process generating your Token.

Step 4: Next, you will need to generate a personal Tableau Token. Head to your User Profile, then click on Generate a New Token. Copy the text under the Power BI and Tableau Token section. Note: this is the only time you’ll be able to access this Token, so please be sure to save it in a safe place!

Step 5: Select which Report type you would like to pull data from. You can load data from multiple datasets at the same time! Next, enter the Token you generated, then click on Load Data:

Step 6: Your Data Source tab in Tableau will open up with your selected Report Data. In this view, you can define the data you want to import into your Workbook. You will see that these reports are housed under the Table section to the left. Drag your Reports to the panel on the right to import your data into your Workbook:

Under Scout RFP Reports, you will see we have imported two Saved Reports, along with the data generated below. The next step would be to explore your data! Access your Worksheet by clicking on "Sheet1" (this may be titled differently on your end):

Step 7: Refresh Your Report

Your Scout Data Source is treated as an Extract in Tableau terminology. By default, extracts are configured to fully refresh. This means that every time you refresh the extract, all of the rows are replaced with the data in the original data source. 

If you need to update your Scout data in Tableau to see the most recent data, select your Data Source on the Data menu, and then click on the Refresh icon:

A request query will be created, which will take some time depending on the size of your dataset:

Step 8: Explore Your Data

Within your Worksheet, you can explore your data to create your desired Visualizations. In the Data panel to your left, you will see all of the data items included in your dataset. The data is divided within two categories, Dimensions and Measures. Data that is placed in Dimensions are usually categories, while Measures are numeric. To start creating your visualization, drag your desired data items into the Columns and Rows box.

In the following example, we're including a simple visualization that displays the number of Projects for each Project Type:

Tableau does an excellent job in placing your data in the right areas, but we always suggest double-checking your data! Your work is done! You can start digging deep into your Scout data in Tableau.
